POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsibilities include setting strategic direction for community health programs, ensuring physicians are informed at engaged about issues critical to their and the hospital's success (e.g., quality, patient care outcomes, patient service), strengthening relationships between the Medical Staff and the hospital, and leading the identification and development of new programs. Supports the Medical Staff structure, assisting as requested medical staff leadership oversight of patient care and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Director Medical Affairs is a member of the senior executive team.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
MD or DO degree. Board certified or qualified in clinical specialty. Must have experience as a practicing physician.
Desired:
MA, MBA or MHA preferred.
SKILLS /KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Experience should include working knowledge or experience in health care operations. Actual administrative experience preferred but not required. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills, be credible, productive as evidenced by a history of accomplishment, have strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to positively influence people, achieve results, and foster trust. Significant experience in clinical practice and proven clinical skills are required.

The ideal candidate will be a board-certified physician, primary care trained and/or knowledgeable; have a demonstrated track record of success and leadership working as a CMO or VPMA; be well-versed in quality improvement be current on the various state and federal agency laws, regulations and standards; be well-read on the current debate on health care reform; possess excellent communication, presentation and diplomacy skills; and have experience with medical staff planning and development, physician recruitment and retention.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Director, Medical Affairs reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
