POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs emergency department registration.  Verifies insurance coverage and authorization for emergency services.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

Minimum:

(1) High School diploma or equivalent, (2) Previous hospital admitting and/or emergency department registration experience.

Desired:

(1) Bilingual preferred.

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

Insurance knowledge PPO/PPS/HMO.  Working knowledge of medical terminology.  Type and basic computer skills.  Must have strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to function during crisis situations.  Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment. Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.  Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential.  Must be fluent in spoken and written English.  Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.

PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires sitting at computer for long periods. Repetitive motions of hands, wrists and fingers. 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Exposed to hectic, sometimes noisy work area with frequent interruptions.  Occasional exposure to patients and families under stress.  Exposure to biological hazards and unpleasant odors.
