Doctors hospital files plan to emerge from bankruptcy

In what officials hailed as a triumph of partnership with the community, Doctors Medical Center San Pablo took an important symbolic step to a brighter future Thursday by filing a plan in federal court to emerge from bankruptcy. The plan, which a creditors committee approved, calls for vendors, suppliers and other creditors with unsecured claims to get about 40 cents on the dollar during a four-year period, said Elaine Hammond, bankruptcy attorney for the West Contra Costa Healthcare District, which owns the hospital; creditors of $5,000 or less, many of them local businesses, would get about 50 cents on the dollar.
