Plan charts options for Doctors hospital future

The next two months may determine the future of Doctors Medical Center, as officials decide by the end of June where to find at least $10 million in short-term funds to see the San Pablo hospital through January. That is the timetable laid out in a consultant's report released May 15, which sets a course for the West County hospital that filed for Chapter 9 bankruptcy last October. The report doesn't detail the possibility of closure, something officials are trying to avoid discussing. "It is different now because we do have a plan," said Tim Weis, a consultant with Wellspring Management Services LLC, who is also serving as CEO of the hospital. "We're pretty sure the plan is achievable, but it will require some modest funding and hard work on the part of everybody."
