Quality treatment provided in a highly supportive environment.

Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer. Early detection can offer women the best chances of survival when cancer is found. The Breast Care Center at Doctors Medical Center uses low-dose digital mammography for screening and detecting breast cancer. These services are provided by our dedicated and caring staff.

What to expect during your appointment

A member of our staff will escort you to a private dressing room where you will change into a patient gown. Before changing, please remove any clothing from the waist up as well as any jewelry around your neck and face.

During the procedure you will stand in front of an x-ray machine that is designed to produce images of the breasts. A technician will gently position your head and arms to make sure that the machine has a clear view of your breast. She will place one of your breasts on a platform and adjust it to your height.

The mammography machine will gradually flatten your breast against a film plate so that the x-ray machine can make a clear picture of your breast. A front and side view will be taken of both breasts. Although some patients find this procedure to be a bit uncomfortable, it usually takes just a few minutes. Having a mammogram is an important step in detecting signs of breast cancer. If you experience too much discomfort during this procedure please be sure to let your technician know.

“I enjoy my job here at Doctors Medical Center because I love taking care of patients. As a mammography technologist I take care of many types of patients and each one is different. Mammography is a very intimate test and many patients do not enjoy having the exam. My job is to make the patient comfortable during this test and provide information while doing so.

I have laughed and cried with patients, and listened to those who simply needed an ear.

Every day brings something new to the Breast Care Center. My co-workers and colleagues are always there to lend a helping hand regardless of the situation. I can also rely on the Radiology Department for advice and guidance when I need it. All of this makes the Cancer Center special to me. Doctors Medical Center is a community within a community, and it's rewarding to see good folks loving and caring about our patients' well-being and doing an awesome job as a team.”
