Oncology Social Worker

The Oncology Social Worker is an important member of the healthcare team and available to all patients who are receiving treatment in the J.C. Robinson, M.D. Regional Cancer Center. Social workers are the link between the healthcare team and the cancer patient during and after treatment. They provide counseling, education and referrals to community resources to patients and their families. In addition, they provide guidance to help patients navigate the healthcare system and find support to manage the day to day challenges of living with cancer and cancer treatments.

What to expect during your appointment

Oncology social workers are trained to respond to individual situations and issues. They help ensure that people with cancer and their families have access to receive the best possible care. Working closely with you and your family, our social workers help determine what your needs are -- emotionally, physically and socially -- and help find the best resolution to those issues. They will discuss the fears about your diagnosis and treatment you may be having, and help provide ways to cope.

You can look to your social workers to help you find financial assistance, lodging locations, transportation and community services. Social workers advocate for you with community and entitlement programs and can be the person you turn to with any problem, question or worry.
